AstraZeneca’s success is built on a clearly articulated vision – to build a world-class company driven by science. Their purpose captures that idea: we push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines. But how do you use purpose to unlock potential and engage employees when time is the most precious commodity in healthcare? The challenge was to reduce complexity and red-tape to free up employee time so they can focus on what really mattered.
Idea
Saving 2 million hours:
Time is the most precious asset, so we thought about how the business could save time, create efficiencies and increase productivity in areas where it could enhance business performance. We posted a challenge to AstraZeneca's employees to collectively save 1 million hours and repurpose this time to improve lives around the world. The momentum created exceeded this challenge, unlocking 2 million hours that were better spent on clinical trials.
Powering business progress through simplification
Using VYTALS, our real-time online crowdsourcing solution, employees helped us identify where crucial hours could be saved. Through their involvement we could ensure we addressed their needs and that they were engaged through the process.
Simplification is about saving time that can be better spent on progressing science, helping patients and personal development. We posed an organizational-wide challenge to their 60,000 employees: “Collectively, let's save 1,000,000 hours and repurpose that time on what really matters”.
From change management programs to employee engagement initiatives, the momentum created unlocked 2,000,000 hours of time redeployed into clinical trials to improve over 4 million lives around the world.
